Owls and Hexies

The last couple of days have been spent hand sewing binding.  The first quilt finished was the wool applique owls – I love the autumn look of this project and the big eyes of the owls.  The wallhanging measures 14″ x 28″.

The oriental hexies was the next project finished.  It is 20 1/2″ x 27″.  I enjoyed the hand stitching of the little hexagons and really like the look of the finished piece, but next time I think that the hexies will be bigger than 1/2″.

Happy sewing,

More Green

I hope everyone had a good Labor Day weekend.  My weekend involved travel and good times with family, but no sewing.  However I have managed to finish the small green & gold wallhanging (17″ x 23 1/2″).

090413 (730x1024)Isn’t it cute?  Once it is quilted, this will look great hanging in my sewing room.

I have also been working on the green & purple quilt.  After making a couple of blocks, I decided to layout all the rail fence pieces.  This way it will be easier to make sure that the lighter and darker fabrics are distributed through the top.

Purple & Gray Wallhanging Top

You may recognize these blocks.

081813 (1018x1024)The last time I played with these blocks was in January, but now they are a wallhanging (25″ square) quilt top.  The sashing gives the blocks a bit of room to “breathe” which I like.

There seems to be several smaller projects on my list and next up is a placemat.

I had better get busy sewing.

Playtime

I finished the four purple/grey blocks and now it time to play.  What do you think of this arrangement?

011513 (1024x1009)Or this one?

011513A (1000x1024)Here is another one – isn’t this fun?

011513B (1004x1024)This is really a great way to see some of the possibilities.  I haven’t made a final decision, but right now this is the one I am seriously considering.

011513C (1007x1024)I am going to let them stay on the design wall for a couple of days to simmer.

The Wavelet is coming together.  I have all the strips sewn and a couple of the rows.

I have all three French Braid books by Jane Hardy Miller, but the two quilts I have made are both from the third book – French Braid Transformation.  This is the other quilt which I called Oriental Maze and Jane calls Amazing Maze.

There has been no further progress down Easy Street, but I did finish the doll quilt.

Back from vacation

I had made a couple of projects, but had to wait until they were gifted before I could share them.  The first is a Halloween wall hanging –

This wall hanging is 24″ x 28″ and was quilted in white thread with a giant spider web.  I had so much fun doing the machine quilting on this project.

The second was three covered journals.  These were gifts for three grandchildren.  Did you notice the Star Wars journal?

I had a great time visiting family, playing with grandkids and checking out the quilt shops.  Enough playing, now it is time to get sewing!
