Design Wall Monday 08-24-15

Today I have a new project on my design wall.  The name of the pattern is Strip It: WIND and it will measure 72″ x 78″.

082415 (1024x755)I started this project 4 or 5 weeks ago and completed the first step.  Now it is time to get busy and finish this quilt top since one of my goals this year is to not add to my UFO list.

This quilt is made with Centennial Solids which is not my regular style, but I really like the colors.  It is a good thing to make something unexpected once in a while.  However, when this is done it is back to star quilts.

The Pretty in Everything BUT Pink quilt is finished – sleeve, binding and all.

082415A (760x1024)This is the 16th finish for this year which was my year goal.  I wonder what my final count for 2015 will be.

Here is a picture of the backing –

082415B (683x1024)I like to keep a couple of baby quilts around in case I need one in a hurry.  This one will be perfect for a baby boy.

Star of Yesterday

082115 (1024x1018)I am having so much fun working on this quilt top.  Right now only half of the center is stitched down and the other half is pinned in place.  I know that I said it before, but the applique really pops against the same fabric background around the star.

Currently I am hand stitching the binding on the Pretty in Everything BUT Pink quilt, but once that is completed I will be back to this project.  I have also been prepping the wool flowers and leaves for the outside border.

082115A (1024x683)Since there are 80 leaves and 16 smaller flowers to be prepped, I have been trying to get 10 or 15 done each day.  It will be so easy to work on the border with all of the pieces ready and I really need to get my cutting table cleaned off.

Happy Weekend,

Design Wall Monday 08-17-15

Yesterday I was working on the wool flower appliques for Star of Yesterday.  I really like how it is coming together and am very pleased with my decision to have the background all one color.

081715 (956x1024)The Pretty in Everything BUT Pink top is being machine quilted with monofilament thread and a meander.

081715A (1024x797)Between these two projects and getting my cutting table cleaned up, I have plenty to keep me busy and out of trouble – maybe.

Stars and More Stars

The first star quilt top is finished and has a name.  The name of the pattern is Pretty in Pink, so I named mine Pretty in Everything BUT Pink.  This is going to be a great baby quilt.

081515 (804x1024)The finished size is 46″ x 62″ which I found strange since the directions said that the top would measure 46″ x 54″.  That is when I discovered that I had added an extra half star to each column.  Oh well, I am not going to chop off the extra half star now.

The next star pattern is Star of Yesterday.  It is a flannel star background with wool flower appliqued on.

081515B (1024x735)The pattern shows lots of bright flannel fabric which makes me think of summer, however the wool pieces from the kit says autumn so that was the theme I went with picking out the flannel fabric.  Also I think that the different colored background takes away from the star shape, so I used one color for the background around the it.

081515A (1020x1024)I also used the same fabric in the same position in the long rail fence blocks framing the star.  I like the look of some order amide all the scraps.  The next part is to start prepping the wool flower applique pieces.

My cutting table has also gotten a bit out of control, so I need to get that organized before I start the next project.  Wonder which star pattern will float to the top?
