Design Wall Monday 07-08-13

I just knew that I wanted a pieced border on the Autumn Rings ‘n’ Things quilt,  however the quilt had different ideas.

070813 (1024x723)Instead of playing nicely together, the border and the center are fighting for attention.  Off with the pieced borders, and on with a border from the background fabric.

The next project is a birthday Lego quilt for my youngest grandson’s first birthday.  I need to get busy on it.

Check out what else is going on at Patchwork Times.

Surprise!

Now that the center of Rings ‘n’ Things is completed, I have been thinking about border options.070213 (1024x1012)The quilt pattern calls for a 6″ border from the background fabric with scallops, but I want to do something different.  What border options have other quilters put on this top?

I entered the pattern name into Google Search which produced some surprising results.  Of course the two quilts from the book were at the top of the list, but then pictures of my quilt from this blog were shown.  Isn’t there someone else out there in internet land sewing and blogging about this pattern?

Since I found no internet inspiration, I have tentatively decided to go with a 1″ inner border, 3″ middle border and 2″ outer border.

Happy 4th to everyone.

Progress Report

Do you ever get the feeling that your quilt is not turning out how you envisioned?  I have learned to stop and re-evaluate the top when that feeling occurs.

And that is what happened with the Rings-n-Things quilt top.  I liked each individual block, but I was unhappy when they were pieced together.  It took me several days to discover the issue – the quilt was too dark.  So my solution was to add some light sashing between the blocks.

062813 (1024x1008)The sashing adds a secondary pattern to the quilt and I am loving it.

I had better get busy cutting out all the pieces of the remaining blocks, so I can get the middle of the top finished this weekend.
