Cascades Quilt Top Finished

I had planned to have this quilt top finished last weekend, however that just didn’t happen.  The border fabric that I had purchased just did not play well, so it was back to the quilt shop I went on Sunday.  Monday and Tuesday were spent playing with grandkids, but I was able to attach the borders yesterday.

061115 (914x1024)The directions were easy to follow, however there is a mistake in the cutting instructions.  It says to cut a 12 3/4″ square for the setting triangles when it should be a 14″ square.  It made for an interesting design decision since the fat quarters that I used were several years old.  I decided to add strips to the long side of the triangles to bring them up to size.

Design Wall Monday 06-01-15

I can’t believe how quickly this quilt is going together.  I started cutting the pieces on Friday and see how far I am today.

060115 (933x1024)The quilt will be twin-sized (71″ x 86″) when completed.  This is not the final layout – once all the blocks are completed I will be rearranging them a bit.  The fabric to the left is for the sashing.

The pattern directions are great.  They include a diagram for cutting squares and triangles from the fat quarters.

I have been having so much fun with the easy sewing and playing with colors on this project.

Check out other quilts at Judy’s Design Wall Monday.

Vampire Friday

I finished the first block on the Happy Halloween quilt.  The mouth and eyes will be added later.

052915A (843x1024)This is a kit that I picked up at the Denver Quilt Show a couple of years ago.  I really enjoy the Halloween theme and thought the characters are great.

052915B (716x1024)All 18 fat quarters for the Cascades quilt have been washed and pressed.  The goal is to get started cutting and piecing this weekend.

052915 (867x1024)I think that this project will sew together fairly quickly since it is mostly squares.
