Carolina Chain

090615 (1024x1018)Carolina Chain is now a finished quilt.  There are so many things that I like about this quilt – the layout where the darker blocks in the center shade out to light at the edges, the gray & white strip binding, the texture added by the Baptist Fans quilting motif and the way the blue & cream variegated thread blends so well with the blocks.

To celebrate the completion of Carolina Chain I fused the applique pieces on two more Happy Halloween blocks.  I need to keep working on this project so that it doesn’t end up as a UFO.  Here is a picture of the four blocks with the two new ones on the bottom.

090615A (775x1024)Dracula is the only block with all the machine applique added.  My plan is to do the machine applique once all 12 blocks are ready.  I doubt that it will be completed this year, but it should be hanging for Halloween 2016.

Borders on Carolina Chain

Carolina Chain is my third quilt top finish for 2015.

012815 (1011x1024) Since Bali Star and Carolina Chain were made with the same fabrics, I wanted to use a different color in the border.  Bali Star has a brown border, so I used gray for the inner border and the same fabric as Diamond Braids for the outer border.  I like the way the gray inner border accents the gray flowers.

The next project is to machine quilt this top:

012815A (907x1024)The pattern is Millennium from Phenomenal Fat Quarter Quilts by M’Liss Rae Hawley.  I did not record the date when this top was completed, so my best guess is somewhere between 2004 – 2008.  I think that this one has waited long enough to become a finished quilt, don’t you?
