Yeah – the baby quilt top is finished although those black squares are really dark purple.
Since Baby Girl is due the middle of May this top needs to be a completed quilt soonish. I plan on machine quilting Succulent from the Step-by-Step Free-Motion Quilting book on this quilt.
In the interest of being honest, I have to admit that this is not my favorite quilt. However it is a great baby quilt to be used and abused.
It is time to find some backing and cut the batting.
I have been busy working on the Christmas gift Baby Blockhead quilt. This is what my design wall looked like on Friday morning –
and this is where I am now – stitching the binding on.
I am very pleased with the progress made this weekend, but now I have a date with Charlton Heston in Ben-Hur along with my thread and needle.
My Mom enjoyed making baby quilts like this one. It has french knots on the white eyelet and is hand quilted.
I think that this was originally intended to be a stuffed doll, but it sure is an adorable quilt. The back side of the doll went on the back of the quilt.
I feel connected to Mom when I look at this quilt.
While my Mom liked handwork, my preference is piecing. My current project is this birthday Blockhead quilt.
It needs to be finished by next Wednesday – wish me luck.
I did it! All three of my quilting goals for April have been completed. Here is the finished baby quilt.
I quilted 1/4″ inside all of the blocks and did a square loop design in the white & border.I found 1/4 yard of this fabric for the sleeve. Isn’t it perfect?
This quilt was so much fun to make. I may need to make another one.
The baby quilt top is finished. It measures 43″ x 43.75″.
When or if I make this pattern again, I think that I will look for some striped fabric for the borders. Right now this one needs to be completed and I have already decided on quilting designs, so I need to get busy.
I have been busy on the third project for April – a baby quilt.
The pattern is called Blockhead Baby Quilt by Allegory Lanham. It is a free pattern found here on the Moda Bake Shop site.
I am making several changes to this pattern. My baby quilt will be bigger, the blocks are stacked differently, and I am planning to use fabric marker on the face instead of applique/embroidery.
This quilt needs to be finished by next Tuesday, so I had better get busy.
