501 Quilt Top

The 501 quilt top is finished.

061314 (768x1024)As you can see, it is longer (64″ x 76″) than my design wall (72″ x 72″).  I usually pair black & white with red, but I really like this blue version.

Several months ago I decided that there were three main quilting goals that I wanted to accomplish this year.  They are to learn a new technique, add applique to a some quilts, and sew another Judy Niemeyer pattern.

The hexies are the new technique and a great portable project.  Witches Brew is the Judy Niemeyer pattern that I picked and all the fabric to make it has been collected.  As for the applique projects – the first is Kingyo made with Oriental fabric and the second is Loco-Motion made with recycled men’s shirts.

061514 (734x1024)This is going to be a fast finish – see how much is already completed.

061514A (768x1024)Now it is ready for the applique borders.  There is a good chance that this will be a finished quilt top by this evening.

I worked on the hexies during quilt guild, but their progress will be seen tomorrow.

Under the Sea & 501

Under the Sea is finished and I am so pleased with it.

060914 (948x1024)The quilt measures 42 1/2″ x 46 1/2″ and is quilted with clear monofilament thread in a meander pattern.  This is my 8th finish for the year.

Once Under the Sea was completed, it was time to decide on the next project.  I was so tempted to start something new – Bonnie Hunter’s Spiderweb, but there are four or five projects in various stages of completion in my sewing room.  There will be no additions to my UFO piles, so some of these need to be sewn before I give myself permission to start something new.

With stern resolution I focused my attention on finishing the 501 quilt top.  This pattern is from Miss Rosie’s Spice of Life Quilts book.

060914A (650x1024)Four more rows and the middle will be together, then an inner border, a pieced border and an outer border.  My goal is to have this top completed by Friday.
