While working on the Hope Chest quilt top, I cut out 4-patch Stack-n-Whack blocks as leaders/enders using the Effervescence fabric from Robert Kaufmann. They sewed together so quickly and before long I had a nice pile of blocks.
Paula Doyle shows her quilt using this fabric in her book East Stack Quilts. It is so elegant looking that I decided to make one for myself.
The reason it took me 2 weeks to finish the top is because I needed to order more fabric since I miscalculated the amount needed – the border was only on one side of the fabric. I like the 4-patch blocks in the four corners so there was no need to match and miter the corners.
My version is 68″ square (7 x 7 block layout), however it is easy to adjust the top to whatever size desired.
Some of my favorite blocks:
This quilt was so much fun and I really like the neutral color range. Maybe I need to add another neutral quilt top to my 2021 goal list.
As a treat to myself, I subscribed to the EPP Quilty Box from Paper Pieces and received my first box in November.
All of my EPP projects except one have been hexagons, so this will stretch my EPP skills. The November project is Rose Garden which contains pentagons, 36 degree 5-pointed star and irregular heptagons – definitely a new challenge for me. I have some ideas for a different layout than shown and will show pictures once I get a little further along.
Wishing everyone a safe & healthy Holiday season.
