Design Wall Monday 05-28-18

I am happy to announce that the Hanging Gardens quilt top is completed.  The cutting was started on 05-12-18 and the final border was attached yesterday, so 15 days from start to finish.  Really it was 2 weekends because very little sewing was accomplished during the week.  Last Sunday the center was finished with the two side inner borders.

And the completed top –

As you can see, it is longer than my design wall at 77″ x 93 1/2″.  This is the twin sized version of Hanging Gardens with a slight adjustment.  The pattern directions had the pieced middle border on the top & bottom, however I wanted to shorten the length just a bit and didn’t include them.  Unless someone is familiar with the pattern, I don’t think they would even notice.

Using the pieces of Theo’s Blocks as leaders/enders, the center of this scrappy quilt was also completed.

The square fabrics around the outside give a little idea of the border which is today’s project.

Yesterday I went on a short road trip to see Bishop’s Castle.  It is located a little over 2 hours south of home and was something to see.

From the Bishop’s Castle website:

For nearly 60 years, Jim Bishop has been constructing one of the most impressive monuments to perseverance in Colorado. Bishop castle is a monumental statue in stone and iron that cries loud testament to the beauty and glory of not only Having a Dream, but Sticking with your Dream no matter what, and most importantly, that if you do believe in yourself and strive to maintain that belief, anything can happen! Three full stories of interior rooms complete with a Grand Ballroom, soaring towers and bridges with vistas of a hundred miles, and a Fire-Breathing Dragon make the Bishop Castle quite the unforgettable experience!

Since I don’t like heights, I didn’t quite get the unforgettable experience by climbing to the top turrets, but it was something to see.  There are several stain glass windows and this was my favorite.

Enjoy your Memorial Day,

Love your quilt. You are sew fast! Happy Memorial Day to you too.

Love your quilt. I don’t think the pieced borders top and bottom would have added anything and might have conflicted with the strong verticalness of the center.

Very quick finish, I like the pieced sections on the side, very unique. Wow to the Castle!
