Design Wall Monday 08-28-17

The purple checkerboard units for the Lincoln quilt were completed on Saturday.  Just one more color to go – gold!

I have been staring at the fussy cut bear squares for several weeks now and have come up with a layout design.  The book Great Sets by Sharyn Craig is a great reference with seven different layout options.  I am using the Ring-Around-the-Block set.

One of the best things about this book is that Sharyn shows you how to draft your own frame for whatever size of block you have.  The bear squares are cut at 8″ (finish at 7 1/2″) which is a strange size, so drafting my own frame was a necessity.

The plan is to use two different fabrics for the turquoise and the red/white triangles will form a pinwheel in the corners.  I know that I should be sewing gold checkerboards, but I really wanted to see how the bears would look framed.

I really like Sharyn’s book, though I haven’t done anything from it. Looking forward to seeing the completed project.

This is only the second time that I have used her book even though I have owned it for years. I don’t know why I waited so long because I really like the framed look Ring-Around-the-Block gives to the bear centers. I know that I should be working on the Lincoln quilt, but I think that I will finish up the bear quilt top first.
