Long Time Gone Week 5

This week the block for the Long Time Gone sew-along is Trip Around the World.  I am having so much fun with this project and look forward to each new block.

I also finished the Hemingway quilt top (40 1/2″ x 46 3/4″).  Originally I had pulled a brown calico with salmon flowers for the border, but after sewing one side on I knew that it wasn’t right.  This brown fabric makes a much better border as it looks like a picture frame.

Now that the Hemingway quilt top was finished, I needed a new leader/ender project.  Since my 2 1/2″ bins are getting full, I decided to make a Rainbow Braid quilt top using the Creative Grid 2 1/2″ Trapezoid ruler.  I bought the ruler years ago, but have never used it and now seemed like a good time.

My favorite thing about this braid is that I don’t need to trim the sides to make them straight and the seams will nest when sewing two braids together.

The plan for this weekend is to get a couple of the setting triangles sewn for the Lincoln quilt.  My plan was to have this a finished quilt top by May, but I can see now that it won’t happen.  Maybe it will be completed by the end of the summer.

Happy Easter Weekend,

Marlene
