Design Wall 05-06-2013

Inspired by the baby quilts that Bonnie Hunter is making, I pulled out some 9-patches from the orphan block box and burgundy fabric for sashing.

050613 (1024x1016)The blocks go together so quickly when the 9-patches are already made.

050613A (1024x673)In just a couple of hours I have all the sashing sewn and one block completed.

Thank you for stopping by. The orphan blocks are very happy to have been “adopted”.

I like using orphan blocks for charity quilts. Usually they don’t go together but with some fancy planning they make really fun quilts for kids and babies.

Charity quilts are also a great place to practice new quilting motifs. Thanks for stopping by.

Fun use of the nine patches. I have a bunch of 25 patches and I wonder how this setting would work with those.

I think that this setting would look great with 25 patches. My 9 patches measure 5″ unfinished and I am using 1 1/2″ sashing. For the 25 patches you may want to consider a wider sashing. Have fun with your project.

I think you did well with your 9 patches and sashing. Great idea.
