Fun with Blocks & A Successful Shopping Trip

The hardest part about having a blog is remembering to stop sewing and take pictures!  Here are the blocks made with the cut off triangles from Hot Flashes.  Each block measures 4 1/2″.

I need to look in my block books to see if this block has a name or if it is an original design by Marlene.  The on point setting had possibilities, but decided against it.  This is going to be a doll quilt and an on point setting would have made the quilt too large.

And now for the successful shopping trip part of this post.  Do you remember my post about searching for a black with white dotted fabric for three hours without success?  Guess what I found in the quilt shop – the black with white dots fabric -hurray!

Can you see why this fabric is perfect?  Can you guess how excited I was when I spied the bolt in the fabric store?  And no – the fabric from my stash has not turned up yet!  This is my next project as soon as the doll quilt is completed.

I also bought this fat quarter bundle.

Once I got home I couldn’t resist laying it out like Judy Niemeyer taught in her Color Theory class.   This is on my sewing table because it makes me smile every time I look at it.  Some of this fabric may show up in the alphabet quilt.

This weekend is the Black Canyon Quilt Show with guest speaker Judy Martin.  What fun –

Shopping Day

Yesterday was National Quilt Day and I celebrated by going shopping.

Here is a picture of the success of my shopping day.  There is a fabric store going out of business and one pile was purchased at 55% off.  Most of the other items were also on sale for National Quilt Day, so it was a good excuse to pick up some fabric for future projects.
